COMMUNITY GROUPS

Climate, Nature & Health are at the centre of our communities, so pledge to keep them at the centre of your action & decision making.

We acknowledge that nature contributes to our wellbeing and quality of life and that it shapes our cultural heritage and landscapes. Pressures on the natural environment, from climate change and biodiversity loss are a threat to our health, as they damage the systems that protect our wellbeing.

By signing this charter we solidify our commitment to Highland becoming a region where:

  • The natural environment is valued as essential for people’s health and wellbeing. Communities are able to connect with and enjoy nature wherever they live.

  • Community groups are leaders in creating sustainable spaces which are committed to enabling a just transition in the Highlands.

  • Communities feel confident that they can thrive in their natural environment and develop an appreciation for nature.

We acknowledge the invaluable action that community groups are already taking to create a climate ready Highlands. By signing the Charter, you are committing to continue to take actions to keep Highland in good health for climate, nature & people, and will report back each year on how your work is positively impacting communities.

The commitments you are make to the Charter do not have to be new, tell us how your community group already takes action each day to value Climate, Nature & Health. Some actions may include:

  • Reduce your environmental impact through sustainable practices. Set targets on energy efficiency, renewables, waste and water.
